The Anointing of the Sick is administered to those who are seriously ill. It is not a Sacrament only for those who are at the point of death. The gifts of this Sacrament include uniting the believer with Christ's Passion for the well-being of the person and the Church, strength to endure suffering, forgiveness of sins, and preparation for passage to eternal life.
"Is anyone among you sick?* He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord..." (James 5:14)
If you (or someone in your family) are seriously ill or going into the hospital for surgery, we ask that you call the Parish Office (973-786-6631) to arrange for the administration of the Sacrament of the Sick. A good time to celebrate this sacrament would be either after Mass on the weekend or during the week.
The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick within Mass is celebrated twice a year in Advent and Lenten season. Watch the Bulletin and website for details or speak with one of our priests.
Hospital Visits: The Pastoral Staff would like to visit our hospitalized parishioners and to pray with them. Since area hospitals no longer routinely notify the Parish, we ask family members to do so by calling the Parish Office at 973-786-6631.
